UNITED METHODIST WOMEN in the News:

This year's United Methodist Women's Northeastern Jurisdiction (NEJ) held its quadrennial gathering on Thursday June 16th thru Saturday June 18th in Syracuse, New York and four of Grace's UMW women were in attendance; Rosetta Daniels, Korla Frye, Madge Miles and Willette Warner.  This year's theme was "A Fresh Wind Blowing" taken from John 3:8.

It was a wonderful opportunity to network with more than 700 other United Methodist women in the Northeast corridor; from the New England area, New York, Pennsylvania, the West Virginia Area as well as local women in the Baltimore-Washington area; some travelled with Grace's UMW on the bus ride to New York.

The first day's event started with a kite procession with handmade kites from the different Conferences in the Jurisdiction and the kites were put on display for the duration of the conference.  The outgoing President, Phyllis Doane; VP, Sharon Noisette and other officers greeted all of the guests and the new slate of officers was voted in unanimously.  The Retreat Ministries Demetrio Beach, Raymond Trapp and the Image Ensemble, an excellent group of young people led us in contemporary worship music as well as traditional hymns each day.   The next two days started with an opportunity to usher in the presence of the Lord with a Morning Glory service and Bible Study.  Then it was on to mission work and workshops.  The last night concluded with a fun fellowship and included a good ole school 1960's in review.  We had a delightful time of meeting a diverse group of women who share in our Mission as United Methodist Women to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.  It was a great gathering filled with mission workshops and fellowship and we came back empowered to do God's work in mission!

On July 29, 2016, Rosetta Daniels, Korla Frye, Madge Miles and Iris Rogers attended the Mission U Conference held in Bethesda, Maryland.  Mission U allows members to study current issues impacting society with particular attention to the responsibilities of women in fulfilling the mission work of the church.

While the work of the United Methodist Women is mission driven; it is a rewarding experience! In addition to the mission work, you will have a wonderful time of fellowship with a good group of women. Come out, roll up your sleeves and let's go to work!  We will be happy to have you be a part of the Unit!

We invite you to come to one of our meetings held on the 2nd Friday of every month to learn more about our mission work and see if this is something you might be interested in; you will be surprised to learn you can do God's work of helping women and youth both locally and nationally and enjoy yourself too!  Go ahead, mark your calendars for the 2nd Friday, we look forward to welcoming you!

An Afternoon of Praise

The Grace United Methodist Women (UMW) had an awesome and jubilant afternoon of glorifying God at the Annual UWM Celebratory Day entitled an "Afternoon of Praise" held on Sunday, May 15, 2016.

Understanding the 2016 Theme, "Growing in Blessedness…With Praise," the Grace UMW Celebration Committee, spearheaded by Sister Carmelita Walker, decided to have an Afternoon of Praise featuring the Grammy nominated Harvey Sisters and the talents of Brooklyn Richardson and Carol Jackson.

The congregation was filled with women who were beautifully dressed in many shades of pink; the color the Committee selected which is a blend of red and white; red which stood for blood and redemption and the white which stood for righteousness thus representing righteous women seeing redemption though the blood of Jesus Christ.

To help set the atmosphere of the afternoon, Young Miss Brooklyn shared her extraordinary talent playing the violin and received a standing ovation.  Sister Jackson help to solidify the presence of the Holy Spirit using her liturgical dance talent and there was almost not a dry eye in the sanctuary.  The congregation was on a high when the Harvey Sisters took us to the highest of heights and brought down the house with their illustrious talent through songs and personal testimonies!

It was an afternoon like none other and the feeling of warmth, love, and encountering the true and complete worship for God was felt by all!

What started out as a fundraiser for the UMW turned out to be an experience that will be remembered by all who attended the afternoon!

TO GOD BE THE GLORY FOR ALL HE SHARED ON SUNDAY, MAY 15, 2016!  AMEN AND AMEN!
